Read Peanut’s story Below:
Peanut is Forced to Wear a Muzzle By Law
I hate to read stories on the News about Pits attacking humans and having to be euthanized for it. Can’t stand all the statistics thrown in my face showing the the rate at which this breed is being abused, abandoned and winding up in high kill shelters every single day. It’s hard to deny the fact there are a lot of humans victim to aggressive pit bull attacks and that is painful to hear as well. But what I hate the most is the mean – ferocious thug stereotype forced upon these animals.
Statistics. That’s all it’s really about. If the press started to gather news on how people die after falling in their bathtubs every single day in the world, and they got good ratings on their broadcasts, let me tell you, the bathtub industry would crash in a matter of weeks. But news on Bathtub deaths is not profitable. Catch my drift?
The following story has to do with Peanut. An adorable pit, who went blind at an early age due to a degenerative eye disease. Peanut is lovable, gentle and shows no signs of aggressive comportment. However, local authorities in Richmond, British Columbia where Peanut lives, forces him to use a muzzle whenever he goes out on a walk.
Details of this story below. Share this with friends and let’s all create a collective awareness movement to help free Peanut of this muzzle. Would you join this cause? – Remember to give us a Like on Facebook. Thanks so much. [fblike]
When Leanne Bird and her husband Shaun first met Peanut, she was someone else’s foster puppy — but they fell head over heels for her and knew she belonged in their family….Peanut was a 6-month-old puppy at the time.
“We thought she was just clumsy, but there were a few things that didn’t seem right as she got older,” Bird said. When Peanut was about a year old, she was diagnosed with progressive retinal atrophy, a degenerative eye disease.
In Richmond, British Columbia, …. residents who have bully-type dogs like Peanut are required to register them as “dangerous” with the city.
Not only is this breed-specific law totally unfair, it also seriously impairs Peanut’s ability to get around. …”Dogs with reduced vision are obviously especially dependent on their whiskers,” Bird said. When Peanut is forced to wear her muzzle, “she continues to walk into walls and smack her head against things and when she does, she gets quite disoriented.
Peanut’s mom and dad have launched an online campaign, not only to help her but to help all dogs facing unfair discrimination because of their breed.
In their petition to the city, Bird and her husband ask that any dogs who pass the Canine Good Neighbor Certification, a simple training program, be exempt from wearing a muzzle.
