Prosthetic Legs on Daisy

Daisy Runs for the First Time with Prosthetic Legs

(VIDEO) – Daisy’s prosthetic legs are a blessing, but it wasn’t always easy for her. Daisy was abandoned on some unknown Los Angeles street when she was just two months old. She is a small Chihuahua mix with severe congenital malformations affecting her two front legs, right shoulder, and hips. Walking terribly difficult not to mention running.

Just before almost being euthanized, A Home 4Ever Rescue came to the rescue.  Several months afterward, Sheena and Christian Main adopted her and gave Daisy a forever home.

For a couple of years, Daisy managed to move around riding a specially designed wheelchair. Although she managed to slowly get around, running was out of the question. Her veterinarian recommended Sheena and Christian to consider prosthetic legs as the wheelchair was surely going to produce negative effects on her spinal cord.

Soon afterward, Animal Ortho Care from Chantilly, Virginia found out about Daisy and Dr. Derrick Campana flew to Los Angeles to evaluate Daisy’s medical condition and determine the possibility of manufacturing a set of specially tailored prosthetic legs.

It wasn’t easy at first, but with practice and lots of patience, Daisy managed to walk and eventually run free. Today she lives a life of total freedom and movement. Her owner says:

“I am so lucky to have her as part of my family and cherish every single moment that I get to spend with her.

“Our mission is to spread the love and positive message of animals with special needs through Daisy.”
