Last Friday, September 11th – America commemorated 14 years since the 9/11 attacks on the World Trade Center in New York.
On September 11, 2001, Bretagne, a Golden Retriever Rescue Dog and her handler Denise Corliss, members of Texas Task Force 1, joined nearly 100 other Search Dog teams who helped find and rescue hundreds of tragic victims buried under tons of rubble.
Bretagne is now 16 years-old. The City of New York paid her a heartwarming tribute on her birthday that will make true Dog Lovers, shed a few tears for sure.
Just a young pup at the time, Bretagne played a crucial role in helping to recover remains at the site, but also served as a comfort dog to the human workers as they went through this tragic ordeal.
Now, Bretagne is the only service dog known to be alive, and at the ripe old age of 16, she is getting a celebration worthy of her very accomplished life. BarkBox sponsored the trip for Bretagne and her mom Denise Corliss, both of them members of Texas Task Force 1, along with 1 Hotels, who gave Bretagne a very awesome day in New York City.
Congratulations Bretagne and Happy Sweet 16.
